Animalitos del Perú
The cuys aren´t mascotes (pets) here – they´re food! These guys are super fat cuz they´ve been feasting on this grass all their short little lives.
I saw a sheep get it today in the Andes.
Okay I´m lying, I arrived just after she sent him to sheep heaven. The neighborhood dog knows not to mess with the carcass but can help himself to blood drippies on the floor.
And check out the hawgs!! Up here they call them chanchos.
The black guy in the back is scheduled for the butcher this week. MmmmHmmmmmmmm.

Sea lions on the Islas Ballestas
Also known as “Lobos del mar” or sea wolves.

More lobos
These ones are coming out to check out the boat. Look at how many are on the beach!

Some pelicans at top, with a few penguins chilling out below
Peruvian Pelicans and three little Humbolt Penguins. There are a few Inca terns scattered about too (small dark bird with the red bill). You can also see the vast quantities of guano that are covering the islands.

More little penguins
These guys nest in holes they dig in the mounds of guano on the islands.

Takeoff
These are cormorants taking flight. Along with the boobies and pelicans, these are Peru’s main guano producers.

A captivating non-native species
This peacock tried to show off for us. Although not technically not from Peru, he is still pretty impressive.

These are great Jenny, I feel like I am there watching the slaughter with you!! Keep em coming. Miss you!
